It must have been fate that one of my favorite authors, wrote one of my most favorite book about one of the most incredible winter destination- A Desert. The book of which my recent trip invoked memories of is The Alchemist.  The Alchemist is a story of a boy- Santiago who undertakes a long, perilous journey through a desert,  across the world, in pursuit of his desert, which eventually returns to him in the backyard of his own home. I believe the book has a profound impact on my outlook of the world, so as it has own my love for the desert.

So when late last month, Rural Odyssey’s Marwari Soujourn, across the Great Thar Desert, popped out on my Facebook timeline, I knew, it was time for my unrequited love to blossom. In a second, I booked my ticket and I was off to meet my first love- Rajasthan, the great desert of the Maharajas. Though the trip was a quick digital detox from the bustling crowds of Mumbai, I returned with countless stories of strapping forts, imposing havelis, mammoth palaces, blue markets and an overflowing ghee cuisine. While I settle down to narrate the countless secrets of the Marwaris, the eco-friendly practices of a 500 year old Bishnoi clan and humorous anecdotes on ‘how not to cook in a Marwari kitchen’, I bring you a visual ode to Rajasthan; all pictures clicked by Nikon Digicam and Asus Zenfone Max!

  1. Rajasthan is a beauty. I had gone here for a long solo trip of 10 days and I would just love to be back there anytime again 🙂 Wonderful place it is!!! Love the clicks and the intro. The memories gushes back.
